What Options Do I Choose for Each Source?
Printed Book
1. Choose “Book” from the gray tabs
2. Put in ISBN number, if you have it, then double-check the results
3. If no ISBN, choose “Manual Cite” in the blue box
4. If you are NOT citing the whole book, pull down the little tab next to “The Whole Book” and choose “Chapter or Section.”
5. Determine if your book has either an author or an editor. Use the little tab next to “Author” to choose “Editor,” if necessary.
6. Type in author/editor’s name (as much information as you know)
7. If you have more than one author/editor, click on “Add another contributor”
8. Enter the complete title and subtitle of your book in the space for “Source Title”
9. Enter volume, edition, and series information, if your book is part of a larger set
10. Enter the name of the publisher, the city of publication, and the year published
a. If more than one city is given, use the first city listed
b. If it is a “famous” city – New York, London, Hong Kong, there is no need to list state or country
11. Double-check all information for accuracy and proper capitalization
12. Click on “Create Citation”
World Book Online Article
1. Choose “All 59 options” from the gray tabs
2. Choose “Encyclopedia Article” under All Sources
3. Choose on “Website” from the gray tabs
4. Enter the title of the article
5. Determine if your article has either an author or an editor. Use the little tab next to “Author” to choose “Editor,” if necessary.
6. Type in author/editor’s name (as much information as you know)
7. If you have more than one author/editor, click on “Add another contributor”
8. Enter World Book Advanced for the Site/Encyclopedia title
9. Enter World Book for the Publisher/sponsor
10. DO NOT enter the URL. It is not required in MCC’s format
11. Type the year of publication for the electronically published date
12. Type the date you accessed the information
13. DO NOT enter the URL. It is not required in MCC’s format
14. Double-check all information for accuracy and proper capitalization
15. Click on “Create Citation”
Regular Website
1. Choose “Website” from the gray tabs
2. Choose “Manual Cite” in the blue box
3. Enter the Article Title – the unique name of THAT web page
4. Enter the name of the author or editor of the article. Use the little tab next to “Author” to choose “Editor,” if necessary.
5. Enter the Website Title – the name found on ALL pages on that website
6. Enter the publisher or sponsor of the page, if it can be found
7. DO NOT enter the URL. It is not required in MCC’s format
8. Enter the date the web page was last updated, if you can find it.
9. Enter the date that you accessed the information
10. Click on “Create Citation”
If, after diligently checking everywhere within your resource for information, you can’t find a name or date, just leave that space blank.
To see the works cited list, click on the orange Export button and choose “Print as Word Document,” then “Download for MS Word.” Choose “Save as” and save the document to your home directory. Open the document to make sure everything looks right. You may edit this document directly, if you wish. Save the document again, then you can print, email, or copy/paste the document as necessary.
